Robert Kiyosaki Demands You Sell Your Heart Out

January 2008

By Sales All Stars Staff

The story is now famous to his acolytes. In 1974, Robert Kiyosaki started to work as a Xerox salesman shortly after he returned from service in the Merchant Marines. Think of that: one day you're traveling the world, getting waylaid in every port of call and doing so with Uncle Sam's blessing, and the next you're selling photo copiers. Every day. For what must seem like the rest of your life. And doing it in one of the most stagnant economic periods in recent history. Talk about paper jam.
If you ever managed to graduate from that existence into something with at least a smidgen of sex appeal, you'd probably want to forget you ever had anything to do with moving big hunks designed to replicate dullness. Or at least deny it. Not so with Kiyosaki.

As the author of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" points out on numerous occasions in his books, columns and public appearances, the lessons he learned at Xerox never go away. Sales, the billionaire says, is the backbone of every success in business. It turns out Kiyosaki believes he couldn't have hit it insanely big without that four-year tenure at Xerox - the only time in his life solely dedicated to selling a product.
